Friends and Colleagues,
For those of you who know me, this may not come as a surprise that I have decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Often referred to as Mt. Kili, it is also called the Roof of Africa. Located in Tanzania, it stands 19,341 feet above sea level and is also the highest free standing mountain in the world.
The reason why I am taking on this seemingly impossible endeavor is to support a charity organization founded by my friend Dwight Smith. This organization (Thanks Be To God Foundation) is committed to spreading literacy and education among the under privileged children of Africa. I got introduced to Dwight in 2004 as my professor of finance. Not only was I impressed with his knowledge of finance but the thing which impressed me more was his humbleness and his sincere effort to help the under privileged kids who need an opportunity. In 2008, Dwight and his foundation built a new classroom for children in “Ayalabe Primary School” located in the Arusha Region of Africa. In our continued efforts to raise funds and awareness of under privileged children in Africa, we have made this decision to raise funds by climbing Mt. Kili to reach the “Roof of Africa”. I believe that the climb will be challenging but doable.
I will be inspired and encouraged by your prayers and hopefully your financial support for this worthy cause. I personally will match your donations (dollar for dollar) up to $5,000. Please be aware that 100% of your donation is tax deductible. I will be paying all my expenses associated with the trip and will leave Columbus on September 3rd to begin my ascent on September 5th.
